February is widely recognized as the dimmest and most lackluster of all the months on the sports calendar.

Considering the relative dearth of interesting storylines (sorry, Winter Olympics), I decided to rank the seven most entertaining quotes uttered by athletes over the course of the past decade.

I know these 3 clips have nothing to do with sports, but I thought that it would be entertaining because all you need to do is laugh sometimes.  I will probably post 3 videos every so often so stay tuned, I guess:

So, rumor has it online sports betting used to be really sweet; I heard pinnaclesports was an excellent, reputable site until the US cracked down on this alleged integrity issue.  An article I read points to a 1999 study that over $380 billion is illegally wagered on betting.  Now, I am not an advocate of; well, if society does it.. then it must be right.  Because usually, I think people are pretty stupid, especially society.  However, this seems harmless to me because the money can be used in so many ways.  Think of all the tax money and money, in general, the state and the US can collect, insane.  Anyway, it appears sports betting is only allowed in several states where it was legal before a certain law was passed.

Roger Federer collected his record-breaking 15th Grand Slam title today in a spectacular Wimbledon final that will not be easily forgotten by any of us who saw it. Major congratulations to the man who most pundits feel comfortable calling the Greatest Tennis Player of All Time.

Sunday, the many lives of A-Rod increased by one.

While the more famous -- or infamous -- A-Rod, a.k.a. Alex Rodriguez, was enjoying a day off while his New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-8 for their 10th win in 11 outings, his moniker received a huge boost in a different sport played on grass overseas.

If I had bet on every sporting event in which I just knew in my gut what the outcome was going to be, I would be even more broke than I am now.  We all know that Roddick is 2-15 against Federer lifetime and that Roger is playing some tennis right now that could be better than I have ever seen him play.  That is why sports are so entertaining!  Especially those decided by one game or match as opposed to a "best of" series.  On any day, at any time, there is an opportunity for an upset.  That's why the Confederation Cup final was even slightly exciting to me.  I knew Brazil had a much better team, but on any given day.....              I knew that the Patriots were going to clobber the Giants and finish a historic season 19-0.  I knew that Tyson was going to knock out Buster Douglas and continue his tear through anyone who got in his way.  And without a doubt, I KNEW that my Florida Gators were going to destroy a Michigan team that had lost to a division II school earlier in the year.   And Sunday...  I will be watching a cheering for the American Andy Roddick, even though I KNOW that Federer is going to win..............................

There's been a less-than-pleasant bed bug infestation at the humble chateau de Bisbee/Duah. It began, as these things so often do, as a minor disturbance, a hole in the screen we thought, undoubtedly allowing in some pesky mosquitos. My negligence to nip the problem at the bud resulted in the realization of great bed bug civilizations, though, and a few nights ago I was roundly bludgeoned into a schizophrenic mess. I've remained this way since, basically-- sleeping on the living room floor while visions of human-sized arthropods and Hanley Ramirez batting lines dance through my head...

The women took center stage at Wimbledon today as all four quarterfinals took to the lawns of Centre Court and Court 1. Unfortunately, the clashes of the last eight women failed to provide much in the way of compelling tennis matches.

The second Monday of Wimbledon is traditionally hyped as one of the best single days of tennis each year. That reputation is warranted as the day usually features all of the final 16 men and 16 women slugging it out for spots in the quarterfinals. For tennis fans, it's a great day to plop down in front of the TV and wallow in all the grasscourt greatness.

Some claim that Roger Federer's clay conquest was a hollow victory since he did not beat Rafael Nadal.

As soon as Roger Federer dried his last tear of joy, the backlash began. Reporters and columnists quickly started dismissing his championship in the French Open because of something Roger could not control. Federer had no part in determining who he played in the final at Roland Garros. He simply did what he had done 13 times before- win a Grand Slam.

Iranian women competed in tennis for the first time since 1972, 7 years prior to the revolution. They played a tie with Hong Kong at a neutral site in Australia. Since Iranian law requires all women to be covered from head to toe in public, the players wore their hijab on the courts where the temperature was near 100 degrees fahrenheit. If I wore a sweatsuit on a 100 degree day I'd be sweating befoe I even started playing. They lost bad.

Poor Novak Djokovic.  Last year’s Australian Open winner and this year’s punchline, Djokovic is the Serbian equivalent to Rodney Dangerfield.  He gets no pogled.

I expect allot of points in the London showdown. Drew Brees will be out to make a statement against the Chargers.  He use to play there and he let in a fashion that makes Favre seem simple. There was allot of bad blood between the two after the Drafted Eli Manning and Traded him for Ryan leaf, oh wait Sorry Phillip Rivers.....lol. With out Bush and maybe Duece's last game for a month. I think we get to see if Colston is health or not. The Yards should be piling on with The Chargers D missing Merriweather. They Rank 31st over all I believe. So if you play fantasy and need a receiver. Look for Lance Moore, Or Henderson to also have big games. Meachem might even get involved. If need tight end help, go get Billy Miller. Since we have no Reggie Bush here is some video of him, and what they are missing in London.

Not many things in our modern society can capture the dream and imagination of an entire nation like the power of sports. Andy Murray is a 21 year old tennis phenom from Great Britain. He captured the entire of Britain's dream by completing a miraculous comeback in the round of 16 at the Wimbledon tennis championships. He forged on to the quarterfinals where he ended up losing to the eventual champion Rafael Nadal. However this did thrust his career to a new level and it kept the British hopes alive of having a British Wimbledon champion sometime in the future. The feat of having a British Wimbledon champion has not been achieved since 1936. The whole country has been patiently waiting through various other British born tennis players in hopes of seeing one of their own capture the trophy. Like Chicago Cubs fans, the Brits have been through many emotional roller coasters such as the years in which Tim Henman carried the dreams of the nation. Tim was a four time semifinalist at Wimbledon but due to Tim either blowing leads or having inconvenient weather delays (It's London, what else would you expect?) he was never able to break through. In a world so devastated by a declining environment and cultural differences, Andy Murray looks ready to distract the people from those problems and is poised to capture the dreams of a nation.

After a couple of weeks where it looked like things were getting back to "normal" in men's tennis, Rome saw everything go all topsy turvy once again with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer losing before the semi-finals. Once again, Novak Djokovic took advantage of the absence of the Big Two to claim a Masters Series shield. But honestly, I think he might have one with Rafa and Fed still in the tournament. It's been THAT kind of year.

After taking time off from tennis for personal reasons, Venus has decided to return. You'd have to wonder if her sister Serena played a role in this decision. Whatever the reason, her return is beneficial to both Williams sisters and womens tennis as a whole. And ofcourse, Venus wants to defend her title in Wimbledon next month because she is the Queen of Grass !! Cool

On January 11th, Bulgarian Teen Sesil Karatancheva was once again eligible by the ITF for competition . Wasting no time to get back on track, she entered a $25k ITF tournament in Arizona and won 3 matches (in a day!!) to qualify into the main draw. She won the tournament and entered another 25k tournament in La Quinta, California the following week, and once again won 3 matches to qualify for the tournament and eventually going onto win as well. After only 2 weeks back in tennis with a 16-0 record already , she has recieved legal pressure from the Bulgarian Sports Federation for not reporting to national duty for Bulgaria in their Fed Cup tie against Hungary . That would have been heroic of her to have played and won the tie for her nation but it is understandable that she needed to re gain rankings and earnings.

Andy Roddick is a fun player to watch and I was rooting for him as much as anybody in the Australian Open, but I was disappointed to see him sink to the level he reached when he taunted the umpire during his match with Philipp Kohlschreiber in today’s effort. Despite dishing out a career best 42 aces, Roddick fell to the German 6-4 3-6 7-6 6-7 8-6.

The Greatest Open Era Men's Tennis Player
By Gene Desrochers

Since we have the 2008 Australian Open coming up in January, I've decided to ask, who's the greatest male tennis player of the Open Era (1968-Present)?  I ask this question of an individual sport that I know a little something about.  Although I will not be very scientific, I will begin the debate and hopefully the rest of you will continue it.  Let's get started.

Taken a step futher, this questions usually boils down to "is Roger Federer better than Pete Sampras?"

Federer is far and away more consistent than Sampras ever was. Since winning his first Grand Slam title (Wimbledon 2003) he's been in the finals of nearly every Grand Slam event. And even more impressive, Federer has been in the finals in twelve of the last twelve Grand Slam events! If we define Sampras' prime as 1993 thru 2000 when he won seven out of eight Wimbledon titles, he never came close to accomplishing anything like this-- and Federer's streak isn't even over yet. If you look at Sampras' results during his prime, he lost early in the French Open numerous times, had several early round losses in the Australian and US Open, and many late round losses, too. Since Federer started rolling at Wimbledon 2003 he's pretty much dominated like no other player in recent history. If Federer can hold even some of his current form for the next 3 years that will give him the same eight year prime that I've defined for Sampras, and would give us a slightly better view of the two careers side by side, but right now, it's hard to imagine Federer not continuing to dominate in Grand Slam events.
